Raiders’ Donald Penn Will Not Be Prosecuted For Domestic Violence
Oakland Raiders offensive lineman Donald Penn will not face domestic violence charges related to an alleged incident that led police to respond to his Southern California home last month, the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday.
Frank T. Mateljan, a spokesperson for the city attorney’s office, wrote in an email that prosecutors “declined to file charges in the domestic violence incident based on insufficient evidence likely to result in a conviction.”
Police responded to the Encino residence on the night of April 29 in response to alleged domestic violence. Penn was not at the residence when police arrived.
“There was a verbal disagreement, there was NO physical altercation,” Penn and his wife, Dominique, said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports last month. “The two are in the middle of a divorce and it is a hard time for both parties.”
TMZ was the first outlet to report that Penn would not be prosecuted.
Penn, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, signed a two-year, $21-million contract extension with the Raiders last September after he held out during part of training camp and the preseason. He’s started 170 career games at left tackle, including 62 games over the past four seasons with Oakland.
